Concert with the Orchestra I'm in!

Hello, and Happy New Year to everyone!
Well, this is a video of a concert that was given by the Orchestra I'm on the 13th of September of this year, 2009 (for those who don't know it, I play the violin). It was in the Basilica of Guadalupe. I hope you like it. The blog of the Orchestra (which name is "Orquesta de Cámara Juvenil de Buenos Aires") is: www.orquestadecamarajuvenilbsas.blogspot.com

My opinion

This is my opinion about the videos we were supposed to talk to in the chat session with the children from La Plata. As the chat session couldn't be done, I'll only write my own opinion about this topic.
The idea these videos are trying to transmit is that unnecessary plastic surgeries tend to ruin people, instead of making them look more beautiful.
My idea about beauty is that it is relative: a person may look beautiful to me, but not to everyone. Slimness is not a beautiful thing to my eyes. I mean, a girl obviously looks prettier in a bikini if she's thin, but I don't see why people think that really thin girls are more beautiful than normal ones. Apart from that, as we can see in the first video, beauty has not only to do with slimness and being 90-60-90, but to the way we look at other people, the expression of our faces and our personality. I could add that people's opinion about beauty is always changing. For example, 'til 1600 or 1700 men considered fat girls beautiful and thin girls ill people. So, the point is: Why should we be changing our shape because of what people think?!
In my own case, I've never liked a "really cool boy", the one that all the girls want. And I don't think it is because I've got a bad taste, I think it's because I don't have the same ideas of beauty that they have.
I do agree with the commercial message. I think commercials are a really important influence when buying products. We usually think "But maybe this shampoo is better than the other one, because the girl in the commercial says that...". And it's true, people tend to believe that what companies say in the ads is true. In my case, I don't feel very influenced by commercials, I like reading what the bottle of shampoo or what the bag of crisps say.
I think adolescents are the most influenced part of the society by commercials. This is because we don't normally know what we do, and we're very vulnerable. The world in which we were born is difficult to live in, and adolescents only want to fit well with the rest of the society. Here is when stereotypes play their part.
I think commercials should be more realistic. A woman with a hair that looks as if it was made of plastic can't convince many people. The same happens with yoghurts that "make you thinner". The only thing that does not make you gain weight to you is water. So if you want to eat, feel free :)
I think the government should be tougher when regulating advertising, because many commercials may make some people feel wrong about theirselves because they're not "as good as the person that appears in them". Stereotypes are bad, and people should know it.

I love this song, I think it shows how people live wars very well. And the guy who goes to fight is only an adolescent, who will never return to his home with his girlfriend. Wars don't solve any problem, but in some cases they only solve overpopulation problems, of course, in a dramatic way.

My Inmortal - Evanescence

This is a very beautiful song, but the video is a bit sad. This singer, Amy Lee, has a really beautiful voice. If you like this song, I recommend you to listen to another of her songs, like Hello or Lithium.
Hope you like it =)

Second chat session

Today, 20th of October, we had the second chat session with the students from La Plata. This time, I could speak with Pedro. This is what I found out:
He told me he was 15 years old, and that he lived in La Plata. I asked him about his holidays, and he told me he would go to Brazil, by car. He'd go with his parents, and I suppose that with his two brothers (a brother and a sister) too. In Brazil he told me he was going to be on the beach.
After that, I asked him how was he doing at school this year, and he told me "so so", so i didn't search for more information about that topic...
Then we spoke about sports. I asked him whether he liked football, and to my surprise he said that he did, but that the sport he liked most was rugby. He plays rugby. His football team is Estudiantes La Plata. I asked then why did he think that football is very important in Argentina, and his answer was that it was like that because "it is a part of us", that it is the national sport. I think he's right.
Finally, I asked him what did he think about having this chat sessions, and why did he think that. He told me that he liked doing that because in that way he's able to meet new people and make more friends.
Finally, I would like to say that I'm happy because I could speak with one person who answered, and who gave me his opinion and asked me questions, too. Apart from that, we could chat through our voices, that is what teachers really wanted us to do. I liked this chat session a lot more than the previous one. =)

My 15th party!

These are three photos of my fifteenth-birthday party. I had a great time, and the party lasted for eight hours. At the bottom of every photo you can see the names of the children of Bilingual who appear in it.

I'm the girl in red who's between the boy and the girl who are in black. The boy who is sitting id Federico, and next to him is Tatiana. The last girl who is sitting (the one in the pink dress) is Noelia.

The only girl of Bilingual here is Noelia, the other two are friends of mine.

In this photo you can see more children of my class: For example, the first girl at the left in a blak dress and with long hair is Sheila (the one who's standing). The last girl at the right in a light-blue dress is Macarena. The girl who's next to Macarena is Mariana. The first girl who is sitting (the one at the left) is Mayra, and the girl sitting next to her is Narella.

I hope you like the photos!!! =)

For the miss...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Thank you for everything you've done for us. We want you a lot. Have a nice day! =)

String Fever =)

These are musicians who play (very well) electric instruments. Their faces and the way they combine one tune to another are amazing =). If you can, take your time to see this video. I think it's worth watching it!

Mendoza!

Last summer I went to Mendoza with my parents and my sister. One day one of my parents' friends (who lived there) decided to take us somewhere out to have lunch. We got into the car and we visited the countryside. There were a lot of mountains, and all the places we saw were really beautiful. There were lots of trees, and there were almost none big buildings. All this together gave the impression of a very calm and beautiful place. All we could hear was the song of the birds.
At the end, we decided to go to have lunch to Cacheuta, a place in Mendoza which is famous because of the SPAs and the thermal water it has. We ate there and than we walked for a while. The air was really fresh, and the people were all very quiet.
This is one of the places I've been to and I like most. If you ever go to Mendoza, do not forget to visit Cacheuta.

Tuesday's chat session

Last Tuesday, we had our first chat session with the children from La Plata.
Not everything was as organized as we thought it would be, but we could chat a litttle.
I talked with two guys: Pedro and Augusto. I couldn't ask Pedro anything, but I could get something from Augusto. He is 16 years old, he lives in La Plata, he plays the bass and he is in "Jóvenes 5" level of English, which I think is my level, too.
Well, that's all for now =)

A Little Nightmare Music

This is a really funny video (well, I consider it funny), that is a part of a show that this two men give. Their names are Richard Hyung-Ki Joo and Aleksey Igudesman, and they play really well. Playing the violin is very difficult, so I can't imagine to play with that machine instead of using the bow... The show this men give is in Vienna, you can find other parts of it (all of them very funny, you never stop laughing, and it's amazing what they do) in YouTube, just look for "A Little Nightmare Music".
Hope you like it!!

Stella =)

Well, I made this character and I named it Stella.
It was difficult to create it, but I could finally do it.
In the "video" it seems she is wearing trousers, but I actually drew a dress.
Well, here is her story:

She was the first woman to become a world-known footballer. She became like a sort of "Maradona". She plays really well. She is blond, but she dyes her hair brown because she doesn't like her natural colour. She has been invited to say a few words to her fans after a match. Waht you see in the animation is she talking to the spectators, who adore her and always dress like her, too.

My own movie...

Well, I guess it is not good at all, but I had to do it anyway. To be sincere, I did not like the results :S But anyway, I hope you do :)

Wanted!

I'm being wanted because of my crimes. I've done something that is not allowed, but I think it is correct. First of all, a friend of mine was sent to prision being accused of doing something he had not really done. I, of course, wanted to help him: he had been my friend for ten years, and I wouldn't let him go so easily. I tried to help him at the trial, but I couldn't. So I made a plan to rescue him from there.
I investigated about the security in the prision. I also looked for information about people who had escaped from there, and how they had done that. Once I thought I was ready to make my own illegal action, but knowing it was actually the best thing I could do, I started thinking of what to do. I could not wait much longer, because every moment I spent thinking, was a moment in which he was there unfairly, feeling really bad and wanting to die. So this is what I did:
I waited for the night come. Then I put on black clothes, but nothing on my face. That way I would look like a person who likes the colour black, and not like a criminal. I went to the prision, there I threw a special essence to the guards, which I had put in a bottle. Once they were unconscious, I took of one of their documents with the identification and I put one of their thombs in the machine to enter. I was in, dressed like a guard. Then, I hit the guard which had the keys and I took my friend out of there. When we finished, we ran away. But, you see, the cameras were recording, so that way they could identify me.
Now, I'm being wanted because of saving my friend. Of course, my friend is being wanted, too. But I think that is the best action I have ever done, and I'm proud of it.
Thanks for reading,
Mariana

When You're Gone

This is one of the videos I like most. This song is performed by Avril Lavigne. The stories it shows are really beautiful. These are three different situations that can happen to you in your life: when you are an adolescent, you can have this problem with your boyfriend or girlfiend. When you are an adult, your husband might have to go to the war. When you are an old woman or man, you may have to live without your love. Appart from this, the song is really beautiful and the lyrics often make me cry (I always play the song on the piano). So this is why I like the video.

I've always needed time on my own
I never thought I'd need you there when I cry
And the days feel like years when I'm alone
And the bed where you lie
is made up on your side

When you walk away
I count the steps that you take
Do you see how much I need you right now?

When you're gone
The pieces of my heart are missing you
When you're gone
The face I came to know is missing too
When you're gone
The words I need to hear to always get me through the day
And make it OK
I miss you

I've never felt this way before
Everything that I do
reminds me of you
And the clothes you left,
they lie on the floor
And they smell just like you
I love the things that you do...

When you walk away
I count the steps that you take
Do you see how much I need you right now?

When you're gone
The pieces of my heart are missing you
When you're gone
The face I came to know is missing too
When you're gone
The words I need to hear to always get me through the day
And make it OK
I miss you

We were made for each other
Out here forever
I know we were...

All I ever wanted was for you to know
Everything I do I give my heart and soul
I can hardly breathe I need to feel you here with me
Yeah

When you're gone
The pieces of my heart are missing you
When you're gone
The face I came to know is missing too
When you're gone
The words I need to hear to always get me through the day
And make it OK
I miss you

About me...

Hello, my name is Mariana S., I am 14 years old, but in September I’ll be 15. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I go to Santa Rosa School. I’m in second year. I like listening to music, and I love Avril Lavigne, Evanescence, Jonas Brothers and Green Day. I play the violin and the piano, and I hate watching TV. There are four of us in our family. My favourite films are Gladiator, Troy and The Lord Of the Rings, and my favourite series is Star Trek.
